Love, Actually:  Review of Love Neko

We knew Japan was going to be the motherlode of our cat cafe adventures and with Love Neko being our first, we wanted it to be special.

Luckily, I didn't have to 'overlook' anything because this sweet little cafe makes for a great outing in Sapporo.

We exited the Odori station downtown (conveniently located on the Toho, Namboku and Tozai lines) and like many of the cat cafes we've hunted down in Asia, found Love Neko a tad difficult to locate with no obvious signage on the building or street (see image below).  A directory showed it was on the 5th floor.

Once inside, we were warmly greeted by the proprietor, a kindly woman who is definitely a cat person.  She ran down the rules for us, which seemed standard for Japan (no shoes, wash before entering, don't pick up the cats, etc) and selected our time allotment.  As it was nearing closing time, we chose 30 minutes for 480 yen.  You can also stay for one hour for 1000 yen, or add on ten minute increments for 150 yen.  We did not order drinks, having just come from a wine festival in Odori park, but the selection of coffee and tea drinks seemed adequate.

The room is on the smallish side, but is a clean and beautifully decorated space- I especially loved the wood floor.  There is a separate glassed-in room with tables for your drinks, but the main feature of the cafe is a large platform 'tree' for cats and people to sit and hang out.  There were about ten or so cats, many of them on the young side so there was plenty of energy on display.  One patron entertained us by flicking a cat toy while a kitten chased it.

There are a variety of pretty cats, and while they were friendly, are not super cuddlers.  Very much like the Japanese, dare I say!

If you find yourself in the lovely city of Sapporo (lucky!), you can't go wrong with Love Neko.
