Fuko-what?: Review of Cat Cafe Fukoneko Sabo
Fukoneko Sabo, outside the center of Sapporo, is hard to pronounce, but easy to love.
One sunny weekday afternoon, we took the Namboku subway line to Asabu station and just one minute south of the #5 exit, there is it- kitty heaven.
There were so many beautiful cats, between the fluffy long-hairs and chubby short-hairs, it was difficult to sit still. I found myself swooning in every direction- Selkirk Rex, Scottish Fold, Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest, Munchkin, Persian, Exotic, Birman and LaPerm, OH MY!
The owner is a friendly woman who seemed keen that we have a good time. She shared facts about each cat-- who is shy, who likes belly petting-- and who loves to perch on your back. Promptly, as though on cue, the back sitter leapt up onto my waiting back. I don't know why it felt like such a thrill, but it was.
The space was very clean and had lots of cozy spaces for the cats, plus an elegant cafe seating area for you to sit with a cup of coffee.
The entrance fee of 500 yen for 30 minutes or 1000 yen for 60 minutes is pretty standard. Drinks are 250 yen, but once you see the kitties, you may forgo drinking to spend more time with these adorable felines.
